Summary of Committee Remit

The Education and Communities Committee has corporate responsibility for:

• Equalities
• School Estates Strategy
• Strategic Housing issues
• Community Safety/Anti-Social Behaviour
• Emergency Planning

The Committee also has responsibility for directorate planning, performance management reporting and financial monitoring for the following service areas:

• Schools
• Lifelong Learning and Education Support
• Support and Development (Education)
• Strategic Housing Function
• Management and Repair of Housing Stock
• Safer Communities

It is also responsible for overseeing the Council’s relationship with the following agencies and partnerships:

• Further education bodies, in particular, James Watt College of Further Education
• Strathclyde Joint Police Board
• Strathclyde Fire and Rescue
• River Clyde Homes
• Inverclyde Leisure
• Clyde Muirshiel Park Joint Committee
