Gaming Machines/Gaming Permits
General Guidance is given below and application forms are available to download from the Documents Section of this page. The completed application from must be lodged with the appropriate fee.
Holders of the following entitlement/Permits are required to comply with the Gambling Commission’s Code of Practice on the location and operation of the machines and the gaming which the Permit allows is subject to Conditions. Further information on the Code of Practice can be found on the Gambling Commission website.
Automatic Entitlement
Premises licence holders (not Off Sales) may apply for automatic entitlement for the use of up to 2 gaming machines within their premises. The machines must be of category C or D.
The licence holder shall notify the Licensing Authority of their intention to uptake the use of this entitlement with the prescribed fee.
If the person/organisation ceases to be the licence holder of the premises the automatic entitlement also ceases. Any new licence holder will require to submit a new notification and pay the appropriate fee.
There is no annual fee payable.
Alcohol Licensed Premises Gaming Machine Permit
A licence holder (not Off Sales) may apply for a Gaming Machine Permit which authorises the use of 3 or more Category C or D Gaming Machines within their premises.
The current licence holder can apply to vary their existing Permit by altering the number and/or category of machines authorised.
Any new licence holder will require to transfer the Permit if they wish to have this facility under their ownership.
An annual fee is payable to maintain the Permit on the premises.
Club Machine Permit
A Club Machine Permit authorises Clubs to provide up to three gaming machines of category B, C and D.
Commercial Clubs can apply for a Club Machine Permit but are not able to site category B3A gaming machine offering lottery games in their Club.
An annual fee is payable to maintain the Permit on the premises.
Club Gaming Permit
A Club Gaming Permit authorises Clubs (but not commercial Clubs) to provide gaming machines, equal chance gaming and games of chance as prescribed in the Regulations e.g. pontoon.
The Club Gaming Permit allows for the provision of no more than three gaming machines of category B3A, B4, C and D but only one B3A machine can be sited as part of this entitlement.
An annual fee is payable to maintain the Permit on the premises.
Unlicensed Family Entertainment Centre Gaming Machine Permit
An UFEC Permit provides an unlimited number of category D gaming machines available for use on the premises. Only premises that are wholly or mainly used for making gaming machines available may hold a UFEC gaming machine permit.
There is no annual fee payable to maintain the Permit on the premises.
