Equality and Diversity

There can be particular issues for those with Protected Characteristics within these well-being outcomes, for example, keeping people safe from hate crime, ensuring that leisure services are accessible and making sure that no-one is excluded from being a valued part of the local community.

The Council's Equality Outcomes 2021/25 sit under the umbrella of the well-being outcomes mentioned above.  Through the delivery of these Outcomes, the Council wants to make sure that the children, citizens and community of Inverclyde:

  • are protected from discrimination, harassment and victimisation;
  • have equality of opportunity in everything that they do; and
  • have good relationships and are respectful and responsible to those who share Protected Characteristics and those who do not.

The Protected Characteristics are:

  • Age;
  • Disability;
  • Gender Reassignment;
  • Marriage and Civil Partnership (for which the law provides protection in the area of employment and vocational training only);
  • Pregnancy and Maternity;
  • Race;
  • Religion and Belief;
  • Sex; and
  • Sexual Orientation.
