Residents invited to community event in Greenock East

Residents, workers and anyone with an interest in the future of Greenock East is being encouraged to take part in a ‘walk and talk’ event to have their say on how to improve the area.

The area in Greenock East between Ladyburn Street and Belville Street was chosen by Inverclyde Council to form part of a Place Standard pilot project by Public Health Scotland and Scottish Community Safety Network to develop a bespoke ‘community safety’ version of the tool.

The aim of the pilot is to gather good quality information by walking around the area with the people who live, work, and spend time there. This information will then form part of the Place Standard, a widely recognised tool that provides a structured framework for assessing the quality of places

Place Standard encourages conversations about how places work for the people who use them and helps identify areas for improvement.

The walk and talk will take place on Wednesday 26 March 2025 between 9.30am and 2.30pm at Cappielow Football Stadium, Sinclair Street, Greenock.

It will include a walk around the local area, no longer than 1 hour long, for people to discuss their perception of safety in the area before collectively agreeing on priorities for improvements.

Inverclyde Council’s convener of environment and regeneration, Councillor Michael McCormick, encouraged people to take part.

He said: “Everyone has opinions on what we should be prioritising to make things better where they live and work. This event is your chance to have your say.

“The aim is that by walking around and discussing what we’re seeing, we’ll get better information to take forward, specifically about community safety.

“I’ve lived and worked in the area all my life and I know people won’t be shy in sharing their opinions. I would encourage as many people as possible to come along on the 26th.”
