More additional support needs provision plan agreed
A PLAN to increase additional support needs provision for Inverclyde secondary school pupils has been agreed.
The council’s education and communities committee approved a proposal to create a new additional support needs (ASN) base at Clydeview Academy to help cope with growing need for specialist teaching.
A consultation has now launched allowing people to have their say on the idea. There will also be a public meeting on Tuesday 11 February 2025 at 6.30pm at Clydeview Academy.
The new Clydeview base would complement existing ASN provision at other schools, which are reaching capacity.
Several options were considered but the Clydeview plan is considered the most suitable.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, Inverclyde Council’s convener of education and communities, said: “We recognise the increasing requirement for specialist teaching within specialist settings and want to ensure there is sufficient capacity in place before the start of the new term in August.
“All options that are open to us have been carefully considered and the proposal to provide ASN education at Clydeview Academy is the preferred option.
“I hope as many people as possible take this opportunity to have their say on this plan and the future of ASN education in Inverclyde.”
The proposal has been developed taking into account several factors, including projected school rolls and availability of accommodation.
A statutory consultation will run until Monday 10 March 2025.
