Garden waste permits for 2025 now on sale

Residents can now apply for new garden waste permits ahead of the brown bin collections resuming in March.

The permits are available online via the council website. All permit holders are entitled to 18 collections a year.

Collections will take place on the same day as blue bin household recycling collections and will start the week beginning 10 or 17 March, depending on residents’ typical recycling collection day.

Around 11,000 permits are purchased each year.

Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council’s convener of environment and regeneration, said: “Our garden waste permits provide a collection from March through to November.

“It’s always a sign that spring is around the corner as our residents get ready to get back into their gardens.

“It’s worth remembering the permits cost the same no matter when you buy them so it makes sense to get one as soon as possible to make the most of the collection season.”

Waste materials such as grass, hedge trimmings, weeds, leaves and shrub cuttings can all be put in brown bins and will be turned into compost. Soil cannot be recycled in the brown bin and any bins containing soil will not be emptied.

This year’s permit is coloured red and are valid from the week beginning 10 March through to the week beginning 3 November or 10 November, 2025. Bins without a valid 2025 permit will not be emptied.

The permit charge of £44.10 applies regardless of at what point in the year the permit is purchased.

Residents are asked to present their brown bin by 7am on their regular recycling collection day during the garden waste collection season.
