Garden of Remembrance service to take place in Greenock
A service to mark the start of Inverclyde’s Remembrance commemorations will take place on Saturday, October 26.
Hosted by Depute Provost Graeme Brooks, the event at Clyde Square in Greenock, marks the start of the 2024 Inverclyde Poppy Appeal with the opening of the Garden of Remembrance.
A short service will be led by Reverend Margaret Nutter after which crosses bearing poppies will be laid by those in attendance, including representatives from Poppyscotland and Inverclyde Council.
Members of the Greenock Sea Cadet Corps will form a guard of honour and a bugler will play to close.
The service is an opportunity to pay respects to the men and women killed in service over the years and supports Poppyscotland’s fundraising efforts across Inverclyde to help current and former members of the Armed Forces and their families.
The service starts at 11am and all are welcome to attend.
Following this, the Depute Provost will pay tribute to those killed in the Greenock Blitz by visiting Greenock Cemetery to lay wreaths at the memorials there. Members of the public are also welcome to attend at the cemetery.
