Eight candidates for Inverclyde and Renfrewshire West seat

THERE will be eight candidates contesting the Inverclyde and Renfrewshire West seat at the 2024 UK General Election.

The candidates are as follows:

  • John Burleigh 
  • Ronnie Cowan – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Iain Adams Hamilton – Scottish Green Party
  • Martin McCluskey – Scottish Labour Party
  • Christopher William McEleny – Alba Party: Yes to Scottish Independence
  • Simon Charles Wheeler Moorehead – Reform UK
  • Ted Runciman – Scottish Conservative and Unionist
  • Ross Stalker – Scottish Liberal Democrats

The deadline for nominations for those who wished to stand for election as the Member of Parliament for the Inverclyde and Renfrewshire West constituency was at 4pm on Friday 7 June 2024.

The election will take place on Thursday 4 July 2024 when polls will be open from 7am and close at 10pm across Inverclyde and Renfrewshire West.

This will be the first UK Parliamentary Election for the new Inverclyde and Renfrewshire West constituency following recent boundary changes.

The Inverclyde constituency area has been enlarged and now includes Bridge of Weir, Houston, and surrounding areas in Renfrewshire West.

It will also be the first election in the area where voter identification – or voter ID – is required for people to be able to cast their vote.

Various forms of ID such as a driving licence, passport, and Scottish National Entitlement cards for bus travel, are all acceptable forms of ID but people can register for a free voter authority certificate if they do not already have a suitable form of identification.

Key dates for the election are as follows:

  • 18 June: Register to vote by 11:59pm
  • 19 June: Apply for postal vote by 5pm
  • 26 June: Apply for proxy vote by 5pm
  • 26 June: Apply for free voter ID by 5pm
