Former Gourock Swimming Club donate trophies to museum
Trophies celebrating the proud history of Gourock Amateur Swimming Club have been handed over to the Watt Institution.
Former members of the club, which was founded in 1906 and folded in recent years, had recently appealed for winners of the trophies to hand them in so they could be part of a community exhibition at the Greenock museum.
Now, 20 of the shields, trophies and cups have been given to the museum to ensure the club’s history isn’t forgotten.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, Inverclyde's Convener of Education and Communities, said: “These items will help the Watt Institution to display the sporting history of Inverclyde.
“For over a century, Gourock Amateur Swimming Club helped its many members improve their swimming and fitness and the museum is an ideal place to share members’ stories through future displays and activities.
“I’m sure visitors to the Watt Institution will look forward to seeing the display and finding out more about the group.”
The museum plans to use the memorabilia to create a digital display in its community space.
