Praise for Gaza fundraisers

ACTIVISTS who have raised £8,000 to support people affected by the war in Gaza have been praised by Inverclyde councillors.

A motion was put forward at the most recent full council meeting by Councillor Pam Armstrong and seconded by Councillor Sandra Reynolds highlighting the fundraising efforts of the local Group for Gaza.

The organisation was formed in October 2023 and meets on a weekly basis for a vigil and has sent £8,000 to date to Medical Aid for Palestine from fundraising events.

The motion asked that the council commends the efforts and dedication of the Group for Gaza and was unanimously approved.

Councillor Armstrong said: “It’s important that we continue to highlight the ongoing atrocities in Gaza and do what we can to support those affected by the fighting through no fault of their own.

“The work of organisations such as our own Group for Gaza is very commendable and they deserve some recognition for the selfless work they do to help the innocent people of Gaza.”

Councillor Reynolds said: “We have a proud record here in Inverclyde for being a caring and compassionate place and the thoughtfulness and generosity of the Group for Gaza is testament to that.

“Whether people are struggling at home or abroad, we stand shoulder to shoulder with them and will do what we can to try and make a difference.”

The full text of the motion is as follows:
