A8 Port Glasgow resurfacing works
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking resurfacing improvements on the A8 in Port Glasgow from Friday 9th August until Saturday 31st August in three phases:
Phase One: The structural reconstruction of the A8 eastbound carriageway between Comet Roundabout and Newark Roundabout. This will involve the overnight closure of the A8 eastbound between Kingston Roundabout and Newark Roundabout from Friday 9th August until Friday 16th August between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night. After 10pm each night there will be no access to and from Anderson Street from Comet Roundabout. There will also be daytime single lane closures between Saturday 10th August and Friday 16th August. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Saturday 17th August.
Phase Two: The structural reconstruction of the A8 westbound carriageway between Newark Roundabout and Comet Roundabout, including the Comet Roundabout circulatory. This will involve the overnight closure of the A8 westbound between Newark Roundabout and Kingston Roundabout from Saturday 17th August until Wednesday 21st August between 8pm and 6am each night. The link road between the Glasgow Road / A761 roundabout and Newark Roundabout northbound, as well as Fore Street, Comet Road and the Retail Park access from Comet Roundabout will be also closed each night. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Thursday 22nd August.
Phase Three: The structural reconstruction of the A8 westbound carriageway between Woodhall Roundabout and Newark Roundabout. This will involve a full closure of the carriageway in this location between 8pm on Sunday 25th August and 6am on Saturday 31st August.
Diversion Information
Phase One:

A8 eastbound traffic will be diverted via Brown Street – Shore Street – Balfour Street – Highholm Avenue – Springhill Road – Ardmore Road – Boglestone Avenue – A761 Kilmacolm Road – A761 Clune Brae – to return to the A8 at Newark Roundabout.

There will be no right turn from Fore Street. Traffic will be diverted left onto the A8 westbound then via Comet Road – Shore Street - Highholm Avenue – Springhill Road – Ardmore Road – Boglestone Avenue – A761 Kilmacolm Road – A761 Clune Brae – to return to the A8 at Newark Roundabout.
Phase Two:

A8 westbound traffic will be diverted from Newark Roundabout via the A761 Clune Brae – A761 Kilmacolm Road – Boglestone Avenue – Ardmore Road – Springhill Road – Highholm Avenue – Balfour Street - Shore Street – Brown Street – to return to the A8 westbound.

Traffic for the link road between the Glasgow Road / A761 roundabout and Newark Roundabout northbound will be diverted to the A8 eastbound via Glasgow Road to join Woodhall Roundabout.

Fore Street traffic will be diverted via Scarlow Road – Shore Street - Brown Street – to return to the A8 westbound and eastbound.

Comet Road traffic will be diverted via Shore Street - Brown Street – to return to the A8 westbound and eastbound.

The Retail Park access will be via Russell Way and egress via Brown Street.

Access to Bay Street residents will be maintained at all times under escort from the closed link road between Glasgow Road / Clune Brae and Newark Roundabout.
Phase Three:

Traffic will be diverted via Glasgow Road to Newark Roundabout.

There will be an overnight lane closure on Woodhall Roundabout, and overnight Temporary Traffic Lights on the Glasgow Road eastbound approach to Woodhall Roundabout.

Access to the Industrial Units will be via Parklea Road under Temporary Traffic Lights.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
