2024 Inverclyde exam results
THE results are in and it is another positive set of exam grades for Inverclyde school pupils. A total of 1,866 candidates received their marks from 8am this morning, Tuesday 6 August 2024. The overall pass rates are 89 per cent at Higher and also Advanced Higher and 88 per cent at National 5 level. The results are broadly the same as in 2023. Some of the key highlights include almost two-thirds (65 per cent) of S5 pupils gaining at least one Higher, which represents a two per cent rise on last year’s results, and there was a slight increase in the number of students achieving a minimum of three Highers – up one percentage point to 42 per cent. In National 5s, nearly half (48 per cent) of all S4 pupils achieved five passes, which is the same as 12 months ago. Following a huge seven per cent rise in Advanced Higher passes last year, the overall pass rate has fallen slightly (down four per cent) compared with 2023 but 89 per cent of candidates still achieved a pass. A number of young people also completed courses at Levels 2, 3 and 4 which are internally assessed, along with a number who achieved qualifications at college. Councillor Jim Clocherty, Inverclyde Council’s convener of education, said: “It’s often said that consistency is the key to success and that would appear to be the case with consistently high exam results. “Pupils put in a lot of hard work throughout the year to get to this point with support from our hard-working teaching staff and also their families, so congratulations to everyone who has received their results today and hopefully they reflect the huge collective effort that has gone in over the past 12 months. “For anyone out there who has not received the results they were hoping for, I hope they do not feel too disheartened and remember that support is available from our education staff along with national agency Skills Development Scotland to help them achieve their goals regardless of their results.” Young people are increasingly studying a diverse range of courses that are assessed in different ways, many of these are internally assessed and do not complete an examination or receive an overall grade. Additional results from college-based courses are still to come while the overall results may change at a later date depending on appeals.
