Strike action affecting schools and nurseries 1 November 2023
The council has received notification of further strike action by trade union UNISON scheduled for Inverclyde on Wednesday 1 November 2023 for one day.
This is part of rolling strike action that will target different authorities across Scotland on different days.
If the strike goes ahead, the arrangements for pupils are as follows:
Primary schools
Closed to all pupils.
Secondary schools
Closed to all S1-S3 pupils.
S4-S6 pupils*. St Columba's High, Gourock, will be open to S4-S6 pupils.
*The intention is for senior phase pupils to attend school. This is being examined and final arrangements will be confirmed as soon as possible.
ASN schools
Craigmarloch School closed to all pupils.
Lomond View Academy open to all pupils.
Early years establishments
Closed except for the Standalone Early Years Establishments listed below that were not included in the ballots and so there should not be an impact on service provision. However, there will be no provision of lunches during the strike day therefore parents have been asked to provide their child with a packed lunch.
- Binnie Street Children’s Centre
- Gibshill Children's Centre
- Glenbrae Children's Centre
- Glenpark Early Learning Centre
- Hillend Children’s Centre
- Larkfield Children's Centre
- Rainbow Family Centre
- Wellpark Children's Centre
Families of children who are entitled to free school meals and a clothing grant will be given a payment in lieu of school lunch of £3 per strike day. This will be added to the December lunch payment.
The school/college vocational programme that takes place on a Wednesday for S4 in the afternoon will go ahead during the strike action. Any pupil who attends college for a full time course as part of a Personal Learning Programme should still attend their courses.
We appreciate the disruption that this causes to families and, if anyone has any questions about the arrangements in place they should contact their child's nursery/ELC office.
