Events across Inverclyde for Book Week Scotland
A host of events celebrating the written word are taking place in Inverclyde libraries as part of Book Week Scotland.
Billed as an annual celebration of books and reading, Book Week Scotland runs from 13-19 November.
Kicking off the events in Kilmacolm Library on Monday, 13 November, will be a celebration of Robert Burns. Storyteller and singer Ruth Kirkpatrick will host the event from 11.30am till 12.30pm. Scotland’s national Bard will also be celebrated at Gourock Library on Friday, 17 November from 1.30pm till 2.30pm with Pipes and Poetry by the Greenock Burns Club.
On Monday, 13 and Thursday 16, children aged 8 and over can create their own outdoor adventure comic or story during Into the Wild sessions. Both take place in South West Library, Greenock from 3.30pm till 4.30pm.
Get crafty on Tuesday 14 November at Greenock Central Library from 10am till 11am. Participants will be making fun Scottish-themed prints using wrappers from a well-loved Scottish sweet treat.
And for wee ones there are lots of Bookbug sessions across Inverclyde. On Monday in Gourock Library at 11.15am, Port Glasgow Library at 6pm and South West Library at 6pm. Tuesday in Central Library at 12noon and Inverkip Library at 1pm. On Wednesday, the session is in Central Library at 10.30am and on Thursday they take place in Gourock Library at 11.15am and Kilmacolm Library at 11.15am. On Friday there are three sessions, in Port Glasgow Library at 10am and 11am, then at South West Library at 1.30pm. There is also a Saturday morning session in Central Library at 11.30am.
P1 pupils across Inverclyde will receive a free bag of books and resources as a gift from Scottish Book Trust’s Early Years Programme and have also been invited along to their local library to take part in a Bookbug session.
During Book Week Scotland you can also pick up a free book produced by Scottish Book Trust on the theme of Adventure which features true stories from people across Scotland. Books available while stocks last.
