Emergency closure of Inverkip Road, Greenock

Message below from Network Rail Scotland about an emergency closure of Inverkip Road, Greenock, for three nights from Saturday 18 November 2023 to remove dangerous trees:

Inverkip Road in Greenock is to temporarily close for emergency removal of dangerous trees.

Network Rail will remove several trees affected by ash dieback – a fungal disease that kills trees and can lead to them falling.

The closure of the road will take place from behind Inverclyde Academy to the junction of Inverkip Road to Cumberland Road.

It’ll be in place from 20:00 to 06:00 every night between Saturday 18 November until Tuesday 21 November.

Traffic and pedestrians will be diverted via the A78/A8 (Bullring), Greenock to Bankfoot roundabout (A770) while the road is closed.

Paul Craig , Off Track Section Manager at Network Rail said: “Work to remove the trees affected by ash dieback is essential as part of our efforts to keep members of the public safe.

“While we understand that there is never a great time to close roads, we will complete this work through the night to minimise the impact on road users.

“We thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during these works.”
