Call to cyclists, walkers, runners and dog walkers
The call has gone out to cyclists, walkers, runners and dog walkers to be courteous when out and about across Inverclyde.
Inverclyde Council has launched a new campaign, #BeCourteous, with support from the Smarter Places, Smarter Choices fund from Paths for All.
The campaign is calling on residents and visitors to consider their behaviour when out and about in the community. The campaign, which runs this month, is highlighting some of the issues and encouraging everyone to be mindful of other users.
To promote the campaign, a video has been created to highlight good and safe practices for cyclists, pedestrians, animal lovers and families. This campaign is funded by Smarter Places, Smarter Choices from Paths for All.
Inverclyde’s Environment Vice Convener, Councillor Paul Cassidy, said: “This campaign is about encouraging everyone to make the best of these spaces we have across the area for walking, running and cycling but to look out for the needs of other people.
“When we embark on our daily walks, runs or cycling trips, it’s easy to become absorbed in our own thoughts or lost in the rhythm of our activity. However, we must always remember that we share the streets, paths and pavements with others. Whether it’s a fellow runner, a pedestrian out for a leisurely stroll, or a dog walker enjoying time with their furry companion, everyone deserves to feel safe and everyone deserves to feel respected while they are out and about.
“Being courteous means being aware of our surroundings and making an effort to ensure that we are not inconveniencing or endangering others. It means taking the time to acknowledge and greet those we encounter, yielding to others who many need more space or time to pass, and following the rules of the road or path.
“When we prioritise courteous behaviour in our daily activities, we not only create a more pleasant environment for ourselves, but we also foster a deeper sense of connection and community with those around us.
"It’s a small gesture, but it can have a powerful impact on our overall wellbeing and the wellbeing of those around us.
"So let us always strive to be courteous, weather walking, cycling, running or dog walking, and show respect to ourselves and others sharing the paths with us and enjoy the beauty Inverclyde has to offer, safely."
This campaign is funded by Smarter Places, Smarter Choices from Paths for All.
