On your marks!
STUDENTS were on their marks this morning as they received their exam results and posted another strong performance for Inverclyde.
The overall pass rates are 89 per cent at National 5 level, 88 per cent at Higher, and 93 per cent at Advanced Higher.
Success at Advanced Higher represents an increase of seven per cent on last year.
While there is a slight drop in the overall Higher pass rate compared with 2022, nearly two-thirds of candidates (63 per cent) have achieved one or more passes, which is up by three per cent.
There is a slight decrease in those who attained three or more passes – down one per cent – with the number of pupils gaining five or more Highers remaining the same at nearly one in five (18 per cent).
At National 5s, nearly half of all students (48 per cent) achieved five Level 5 passes by the end of S4, which is unchanged on last year.
A number of young people also completed courses at Levels 2, 3 and 4 which are internally assessed, along with a number who achieved qualifications at college.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, Inverclyde Council’s convener of education, said: “Congratulations to all our young people for yet another strong performance in their exams and well done to our education staff for ensuring they were well prepared.
“It’s not easy studying for and sitting assessments but the pupils have done themselves, their schools, their families, and Inverclyde proud.
“There will, of course, be some students out there who are perhaps disappointed with their results but it’s important that they remember that it’s not the end of the world and there are always more options than they think.
“Our education staff along with national agency Skills Development Scotland are on hand to support our young people no matter their results to help them achieve their goals.”
Young people are increasingly studying a diverse range of courses that are assessed in different ways, many of these are internally assessed and do not complete an examination or receive an overall grade.
Additional results from college-based courses are still to come while the overall results may change at a later date depending on appeals.
