International Women’s Day 2022

PEOPLE in Inverclyde are being challenged to ‘break the bias’ to mark International Women’s Day 2022.

The council is once again supporting the annual awareness day, which aims to tackle and bring about change around things like gender equality, stereotypes, positive visibility of women, and celebrating women’s achievements.

This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias.

As part of the commemorations, the International Women’s Day flag is being flown at the Municipal Buildings in Greenock and the local authority has also produced a short video for social media.

The video features key messages from this year’s campaign endorsed by representatives from the council and the wider Inverclyde community.

Councillor Lynne Quinn, who is Inverclyde’s women’s champion and is also in the video, said: “International Women’s Day is an important annual event in which we celebrate the achievements of women but also acknowledge the challenges we still face and highlight how more still needs to be done to achieve a gender equal world.

“This year’s theme is about breaking the bias that exists consciously but also subconsciously, whether that is in our communities, places of work or day-to-day life.

“Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day – but collectively we can forge women’s equality and break the bias that still exists.”

The video is available to watch on the council’s social media and YouTube channels.
