Garden waste permits on sale

GARDEN waste permits for the 2022 season have gone on sale.

Inverclyde residents can purchase online via the council website from today (Monday 31 January 2022).

Permits cost £32 for each brown bin.

Collections will take place at the same time as blue bin household recycling collections.

Garden waste collections take place from the spring through to November and will start this year on week commencing 14 March and week commencing 21 March, depending on residents’ regular recycling collection day.

More than 11,000 residents bought a permit last year, which was slightly up on previous years.

Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council’s convener of environment and regeneration, said: “While we’re still in the cold and dark of winter, most people’s attentions will be turning to the lighter and warmer springtime and venturing back out into the garden.

“Whether it’s grass, hedge trimmings, weeds or shrub cuttings, the service means residents can recycle their garden waste quickly and conveniently with brown bins collected right at their doorstep and we can see the appeal of that with the increase in the number of permits purchased.

“A permit costs the same regardless of when it is bought so it makes sense to buy early to ensure maximum benefit right throughout the collection season.”

A permit is required for each brown bin presented containing garden waste.

The £32.00 charge applies regardless of at what point in the year the permit is purchased.

Customers are asked to present their brown bin by 7am on their regular recycling collection day during the garden waste collection season.

Bins presented containing garden waste without a valid permit will not be emptied.
