Shipbuilders sculpture work underway
Work is underway on the new 33-foot tall Shipbuilders of Port Glasgow sculpture.
The giant stainless steel figures were delivered to their new home in the town's Coronation Park on Sunday (30 January 2022).
Assembly of the various sections of the sculpture is ongoing and is expected to last around two weeks but the work is subject to weather conditions.
Once built, the figures will pay homage to the rich shipbuilding heritage of Port Glasgow and Inverclyde and the many thousands of people who worked in local yards.
The artwork was designed and built by renowned sculptor John McKenna.
Foundations were laid late last year.
There is currently no parking allowed in and around the site, including on the main access road to the car park, to allow the assembly work to take place.
It is hoped the sculpture will become a major visitor attraction and add to the existing offering to encourage people to discover Inverclyde.
