Disposing of ashes

There has been an increasing number of households using wood burners and as a result, are having to dispose of ashes.

Householders placing cold ashes in black bins should ensure materials are doubled-bagged. If not double-bagged, it may cause excess dust when placed in refuse collection, creating a potential health hazard to operators.

The Council reserves the right not to uplift wheeled bins that:

 • contain incorrect materials

• are excessively heavy

• are in a dangerous condition

• may present a health and safety risk to staff

No materials, other than those specified by the Council, will be accepted in recycling wheeled bins.

Do not place hot ashes or corrosive material in any container.
