Car Park Changes in New Look Gourock
New arrangements for Inverclyde Council car parks in Gourock’s new-look town centre following a £5.2 million regeneration project come into effect later this month.
The car park on Lower Kempock Street has been reconfigured offering either free all-day parking or free for up to three hours.
The new Monday to Saturday arrangements will be effective from Monday 18 January 2016.
Environment & Regeneration Convener Councillor Michael McCormick said: “There will be plenty of signs letting people know which side of the car park is which with total space for around 160 vehicles. One of our key objectives in the redevelopment of Gourock town centre was to encourage visitors and shoppers into the area to enjoy the local shops, cafes and of course the outdoor swimming pool.
The new car park arrangements will allow free all-day parking in the western half (closest to the pool) and up to three hours free parking in the eastern half. Vehicles in the eastern section must display a parking disc showing the time of arrival.
Councillor McCormick added: “We have distributed the discs to Gourock Library as well as local shops and businesses where people can pick them up for free. They are identical to the discs already being successfully used in Greenock town centre so if people already have one they can use them in the new Kempock Street East car park.”
Two new car parks – Station Road North and Station Road South - next to Gourock train station will offer £1 per day parking Monday to Saturday from Monday 25 January 2016.
All of the other car parks in the Station Road area are privately owned and operated by Network Rail.
Drivers should continue to check signs explaining any parking restrictions when leaving their vehicles.
