Ravenscraig Sports Centre is set for a major refurbishment.

And, leisure bosses are advising customers that the centre will be closed from Wednesday 30 September while it is upgraded.

The centre is expected to re-open in early 2016 with a range of new facilities in place.

The upgraded Ravenscraig Sports Centre, which will be renamed Ravenscraig Activity Centre,  will include a new Hang Fast adventure climbing facility; an affordable fitness gym (Fitness For Less); a new soft play area, Costa Coffee restaurant and two party rooms.

The Fitness Gym on the new second floor mezzanine level will consist of over 100 stations of the latest technology equipment and include a functional and spinning area.

The refurbishment project is in partnership with Inverclyde Council and Inverclyde Leisure

Inverclyde Council’s Communities Vice Convener, Councillor James McColgan, said: “When completed the new Ravenscraig Activity Centre will be a real asset to the residents of Inverclyde and help encourage people to get active.  This is a major investment in the Ravenscraig facility and when opened next year will add a new facility to Inverclyde Leisure’s range of sporting and leisure facilities.

An Inverclyde Leisure spokesman, said: "Inverclyde leisure are delighted in the joint partnership development at Ravenscraig Activity Centre along with Inverclyde Council and feel by diversifying our range of products it gives Inverclyde residents a wider choice when choosing how to spend their leisure time within Inverclyde.

“Ravenscraig Activity Centre will offer a great opportunity for individuals and families to keep active and the financial investment will help inject many more years in to the sustainability of this friendly and local leisure facility. “

Any fitness classes and booking s which currently take place in the Ravenscraig Sport Centre will be accommodated in Inverclyde Leisure’s other facilities during the closure period.
