The Council is responsible for the administration of a large number of licences and permits granted under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 and other legislation.

A few examples of the types of licences / permits covered under this Act are, but not limited to:-

• Cinemas
• Fairgrounds
• Late Hours Catering
• Market Operators
• Metal Dealers
• Public Charitable Collections
• Public Entertainment
• Public Processions
• Raised Structures
• Safety of Sports Grounds
• Second Hand Dealers
• Street Traders (including food vans)
• Taxi Driver
• Taxi Vehicles and Private Hire Cars
• Taxi Booking Office
• Theatres
• Window Cleaners

Administration work in support of these is undertaken by the Licensing Section.

The Council maintains a register of applications for licences in accordance with the terms of Paragraph 14 of Schedule 1 to the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.   Any member of the public seeking to view the register can do so by contacting the Licensing Section on the contact details shown.
