Parking in Greenock

Inverclyde Council operates free parking for up to 3 hours in the Cathcart Street West car park where a parking disc must be displayed.

There are also a number of pay-and-display car parks in Greenock Town Centre (Zone GR1).  The car parks are Cathcart Street East, Station Avenue East, Station Avenue West, Roslin Street, Dalrymple Street, Bullring, West Stewart Street and Hastie Street.  A flat rate of £2 per day applies in these car parks, Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and parking is free on Saturdays and Sundays.

Parking is also free on-street in Greenock Town Centre (Zone GR1) and Newton Street (between Inverkip Street and Nelson Street – Zone GR5) where vehicles can park for up to 2 hours, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.  Parking discs must be displayed.  Discs are available from Council buildings and most shops in the town centre and are free of charge.

Resident permit holders with a Zone GR1 permit are exempt from the limited waiting restrictions and car park charges.  They can also park in the Cathcart Buildings car park which is for residents only.

There are 3 "Permit Holder Only Monday to Friday from 8.15am to 9.15am and 5pm to 6pm" zones.  They are GR2 which include Sir Michael Street, Tobago Street, King Street, Sir Michael Place, Buccleugh Street, Ann Street, Crown Street, Smith Street, Bearhope Street, East Shaw Street and Duncan Street (between East Shaw Street and Roxburgh Street);GR3 which includes Jamaica Lane, Kelly Street (between Houston Street and Union Street) and Houston Street (between Kelly Street and Patrick Street); and GR4 which includes Shaw Place, Trafalgar Street (between Shaw Place and Regent Street) and Mearns Street (between Shaw Place and Regent Street).  These permits allow holders only to park in the streets within their zones.  GR2 permit holders are the only people who can park in the Buccleugh Street, East Shaw Street and Royal Court car parks.  GR4 permit holders are the only people who can park in the Shaw Place car park.
