Memorial Benches, Memorial Trees and Memorial Plaques
Memorial Benches
Please note, from 1 April 2023 memorial benches will no longer be available to purchase from Inverclyde Council. This is due to lack of space for the location of additional benches within Inverclyde.
However, memorial plaques can be purchased and placed on a non-memorial bench situated on Council owned land. This will allow bereaved residents to have a memorial situated in a public space, subject to availability. A maximum of 10 plaques are available per bench on a 10 year lease basis. Benches are situated at wide range of locations throughout Inverclyde.
If you would like to purchase a memorial plaque, please print and complete the Memorial Plaque Placement Request Form located in the Documents section of this page.

Memorial Trees
We can now offer memorial trees to be planted on Council owned land to allow bereaved residents to commemorate the memory of a relative or friend. A mixture of ornamental naturalised species of trees such as Malus (crab apple), Acer and Cherry and native species such as Birch, Rowan and Beech are available. Other hardwood trees can also be purchased on request.
Trees will be a minimum of 2 to 3 years old and planted by Council gardeners. Each tree will have a post mounted memorial plaque positioned adjacent to it.
The cost of a memorial tree including planting, staking, protection, post mounted plaque and 2 years maintenance is £500.
The Council cannot guarantee that a tree will be placed at the first location requested. If this is the case an Officer will be in touch to discuss an alternative site.
Some locations for consideration are as follows: -
Lunderston Bay
Gourock Park
Battery Park
Murdieston Park
Wellpark
Coronation Park
Birkmyre Park
In the event that the tree dies within the first 2 years of planting it will be replaced free of charge.
In the event that the tree is damaged through natural causes, disease or vandalism after the initial 2 year period, the tree will be removed and the purchaser advised. The plaque will be returned should the purchaser wish or relocated should they choose to purchase a new tree.
If you would like to purchase a memorial tree, please print and complete the Memorial Tree Placement Request Form located in the Documents section of this page.
Please note, trees can only be planted between September and April.
