Rugby Development

The following information shows the areas we are currently working in. Further detail on any of the programmes can be obtained from the rugby development officer (please see under Contacts on this page).

Primary schools have been enjoying a big increase in the number of contact rugby games with now 13 of 20 taking part in the full contact aspect of the game. From this a primary 7 league system is in place to give each participating school the chance to play at least 6 games throughout the year before moving on to Secondary where teams await them.

Secondary schools are also competing at many levels. The following shows training times and teams schools have put out in the past year:

CLYDEVIEW ACADEMY – Fridays 3-4pm – S1/2, u16s, u18s boys and u15s girls
ST COLUMBA – Fridays 3-4 – S1/2, u16s and u15s girls
INVERCLYDE – Monday lunchtime – S1/2 and u16s boys
NOTRE DAME – Monday lunchtime – S1/2 and u16s boys
ST STEPHENS – Monday 3.45-4.45 – S1/2 and u16s boys
PORT GLASGOW – S1/2 boys

P6 west contact rugby festival – Greenock- 1st Oct 2014
S1/2 Merit League – Greenock - 14th Nov 2014
P6 east contact rugby festival – Greenock – 25th March 2015
S1/2 Merit League – Birkmyre - 27th March 2015
P6 contact finals day – Greenock – 29th April 2015
P6 non-contact rugby festival – Greenock – 3rd June 2015
P7 league finals day – Greenock – 10th June 2015
S1/2 Inverclyde comp – Clydeview Academy – 17th June 2015

The following games will also take place this year:

  • 13 P7 teams will play fixtures throughout the year
  • u16s and u18s boys will compete in the national Brewin Dolphin competition as well as the occasional friendlies.
  • Girls Rugby : On the back of the creation and support from Brendan McGroarty with the Greenock Wanderers ladies team there is also a large push on girls rugby with Inverclyde schools combining to enter 19 girls in the last event in Glasgow. We will continue to play and send teams of girls to these events throughout the year.
