Primary schools at the Library

At Inverclyde Libraries we love when children and colleagues from Primary Schools come to visit us at the library! Whether it’s popping in to borrow books for a class topic or a class visit as part of our Libraries Inspire programme our passion for books and reading ensure libraries offer an informative, inspirational experience for all primary school age children.

Inverclyde libraries holds a wide range of children’s fiction and nonfiction and offers access to PCs and printing to assist with homework.

Libraries Inspire

The Libraries Inspire programme is a series of public library based workshops designed to enhance primary school literacy programmes. It meets all four strands of the Curriculum for Excellence and aims to inspire children to read for pleasure and for them to be inspired by the services available at their local library.

Through a variety of reading and book related games, activities and talks children are encouraged to read more widely, to engage with books and storytelling in innovative ways, to feel comfortable discussing and recommending books and reading and to make use of public library services. Throughout the sessions reading is regarded as a fun activity inspiring children’s confidence, enthusiasm and enjoyment in reading.

Libraries Inspire is designed to offer library visits to each primary level on a rolling programme throughout the year. Invitations will be sent directly to schools.

First Ministers Reading Challenge

Inverclyde Libraries supports the first Ministers Reading Challenge and is happy to incorporate elements of the Challenge into any school Library visit. Please let library staff know at time of booking that you are participating in the First Ministers Reading Challenge.
