Trading Standards
More information
The main function of the Trading Standards section is to protect consumers and legitimate traders from unfair trading and unsafe goods. This is done through the enforcement of laws relating to Trading Standards and Consumer Protection and also by offering advice and assistance to consumers and the business community.
Consumer Advice
All consumer advice for Inverclyde residents is now given by Advice Direct Scotland (ADS). The consumer helpline can be contacted at the details on this page. The ADS website provides useful information on your rights as a consumer.
Scams
There are vast numbers of scams around, with many more being devised and carried out on a daily basis. To keep up to date with the latest scams that may affect you, or for advice if you have been caught out, please visit ActionFraud or “safefromscams” websites linked on this page. ActonFraud is the UK's national fraud and internet crime reporting centre.
Inspection of Trading Premises
Businesses are inspected by Trading Standards under a range of legislation, from Animal Feedingstuffs to Weights and Measures. The frequency of inspection is dependant on the risks posed by particular businesses with, for example, manufacturers generally being inspected on an annual basis whereas some lower risk businesses may be subject to alternative enforcement strategies.
If you have a complaint or enquiry as a consumer, please contact CAS. If you would like any information on Trading Standards, contact the Customer Service Centre to speak to a Trading Standards Officer.
