Pension Age Fuel Poverty Payment
On 19 November the Policy & Resources Committee agreed a Fuel Poverty Fund of £600,000 over a two-year period. It was also agreed to provide support to low-income pension age households this winter with a one-off payment of £200 to all households in Inverclyde who qualify for the Inverclyde Council Pension Age Fuel Poverty Payment.
Who will receive the Inverclyde Council Pension Age Fuel Poverty Payment?
Householders will receive the Inverclyde Council Pension Age Fuel Poverty Payment if they were born before 23rd September 1958, and,
- they do not qualify for the Scottish Government’s Pension Age Winter Fuel Payment (PAWFP), and on 11th November 2024 they were either:
- in receipt of Council tax reduction (CTR) or Housing Benefit (HB); or,
- exempt from paying Council Tax because all the occupants are severely mentally impaired.
How will I know if I am due to receive the Inverclyde Council Pension Age Fuel Poverty Payment?
Information held by the Council has been examined to identify households who may qualify for the payment. If your household has been identified we will write to you by 29th November 2024 to tell you that you either qualify or to invite you to apply.
Do I need to apply for the payment?
If you receive a letter, it will tell you if you need to complete an application form. Pension age households who are exempt from paying Council Tax because all the occupants are severely mentally impaired will be invited to apply. The application form will tell you if supporting documents are needed.
How will payments be made?
If you qualify for the payment because you receive Council Tax Reduction (CTR) or Housing Benefit (HB), you will receive a credit to your 2024/25 Council Tax account. The payment will be processed without you needing to contact us. A new Council Tax notice will be posted to you before Christmas showing the payment as “Inverclyde Winter Fuel Award” and showing new reduced instalments.
If you qualify for the payment because all the occupants of your home are severely mentally impaired and exempt from Council Tax, you will be invited to apply to receive a payment to your bank account.
Only one payment will be made in relation to any single dwelling.
