Equality matters - have your say
Residents are being given the chance to have their say about which key equality issues the Council should focus on over the next four years.
The Council’s current Equality Outcomes expire this year, and we are seeking local views on the priority equality areas they think should be addressed during 2025-29.
Residents are being encouraged to share their views by taking part in an online survey, with their feedback used to inform a range of Equality Outcomes that meet the needs of local communities.
Equality Outcomes help the Council ensure that the children and community of Inverclyde are protected from discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
They help ensure the Council has equality of opportunity in everything that it does. The Outcomes also ensure the Council is respectful and responsible to those who share Protected Characteristics and those who do not.
Councillor Natasha McGuire, Convener of the Policy and Resources Committee, said: “This is an opportunity for local residents to have their say in shaping the equalities agenda at the Council and make a real difference to the areas that we tackle across the next four years.
“This will help those with the most under-represented voices in local decision-making processes be heard and allow us to continue to focus on supporting those who need it, whether that be back into work or other support.
“The existing set of Equality Outcomes have provided a robust way for the Council to focus its efforts, and it may be that we continue with similar outcomes if they are a good fit for the people of Inverclyde or they may be updated to better represent our residents. This consultation and its feedback is vital in making sure the next set of outcomes meet the needs of our communities today.”
Councillor Jim Clocherty, Convener of the Education and Communities Committee, said: “As well as the Corporate Equality Outcomes, the Council, in its capacity as an Education Authority, needs to develop a new set of Equality Outcomes focused on education provision.
“I would encourage all residents to take part in this consultation. By letting us know your thoughts on equality issues, you really can make a difference to the key areas that the Council will examine between now and 2029.”
