New chief executive appointed

Inverclyde Council today, Thursday 3 April 2025, announces the appointment of Stuart Jamieson as chief executive following a competitive recruitment process.

He will formally take up post week beginning Monday 5 May 2025, replacing current chief executive, Louise Long MBE, who announced in January this year she was leaving to take up the position of chief executive at NHS Lanarkshire.

Stuart is an experienced leader in local government and has a professional background in civil engineering and planning. Prior to local government, he worked in the private sector in project management roles, latterly as a director and company secretary.

He joined Inverclyde Council in 2000 and has held progressively senior roles across many council departments over the last 25 years before joining the corporate management team (CMT) in 2021.

As director of environment and regeneration, he has been instrumental in delivering significant investment to the area, as well managing and monitoring the council’s capital programme. 

He has led on projects for Glasgow City Deal, Glasgow City Region, and UK Government funded Levelling Up and Towns Fund, representing almost £90 million worth of external investment in Inverclyde.

Stuart said: “I am excited and grateful to be given the opportunity to continue the progress made by Louise and work alongside the CMT and our talented and dedicated workforce to deliver our ambitious Council Plan.

“I also look forward to working with our communities, partners, businesses, and governments to deliver in the best interest of our residents and make Inverclyde a better place to live, work, visit, and do business.”

The announcement today follows a robust recruitment process and considered both internal and external candidates.
