Registration opens in early January for P1 and nursery places
Registration will open in early January to register your child to start school or for a funded early learning childcare place.
Children who turn five between March 1 2025 and February 28 2026 (so those born between March 1 2020 and February 28 2021) are due to start primary 1 at the beginning of the new school term in August 2025. Parents should complete the P1 online registration process between January 6 and 10.
Once parents have completed the Primary 1 registration, they will have the choice, if required, to complete a placing request application to a school other than the catchment primary.
A deferred entry application is also available to parents considering deferring their child’s entry to Primary 1 for the school session starting August 2025. No documents will be required at this stage; however you may be contacted for further information.
Parents will be notified by 30 April 2025 confirming their child’s place in school and information regarding induction days will follow from the school after this date. Parents who do not have internet access to apply online can receive a form from their child’s current early years establishment.
Applications for a funded early learning and childcare place for three year olds also opens on January 6 and closes on January 17.
If your child turns three between March 1 2025 and February 28 2026, they will be entitled for up to 1140 hours of free early learning and childcare (ELC) starting the term following their third birthday.
The application window to apply will open on January 6 for two weeks until January 17. Forms are available at any ELC local authority establishment, approved childminder or private/voluntary or independent nursery. Forms must be submitted to your first choice.
Applications submitted at this time will be presented an at annual admissions panel with notifications release on March 19. Forms submitted after January 17 and up to April 4 will be notified on May 22.
