People Urged to ‘Plan Ahead for the Glasgow LEZ’

Glasgow City Council is urging people to ‘Plan Ahead for the LEZ’.
The city centre Low Emission Zone (LEZ) will be enforced from 1 June - meaning that all vehicles entering the zone area from this date must meet the less-polluting emission standards or face a penalty charge.
To increase awareness of Glasgow’s LEZ, why it’s required and how it will operate, a publicity campaign is currently underway which includes advertising on television and radio as well as across social media.
You might have also noticed Low Emission Zone signage appearing on the main approach routes into Glasgow city centre. The signs, which will be consistent in appearance across all LEZs in Scotland, are designed to let motorists know they are heading toward the zone area.
Glasgow is introducing a Low Emission Zone because levels of harmful air pollution remain stubbornly high in the city centre. This can cause health problems, particularly for those most vulnerable, including the very young, and those with existing heart and lung conditions.
There are some exemptions to LEZs in Scotland, such as for blue badge holders and emergency vehicles. Zone residents also have extra time to comply.
