Council taking on 20 new apprentices
YOUNG people in Inverclyde are being given a helping hand into the world of work thanks to 20 new apprenticeships being created by the council.
Applications are now being accepted for a variety of roles across a range of departments, including customer service, business administration, and childcare.
There are also opportunities to work in horticulture, joinery, and sports coaching.
The 20 new-starts will join 67 existing modern apprentices working across various council services.
Roles are open to Inverclyde residents and aimed at those aged 16-24.
Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council’s convener of environment and regeneration, said: “We have had a hugely successful modern apprenticeship programme running for many years now providing first-class training and hands-on work experience for young people while getting paid and working towards a recognised qualification.
“It’s important that we do all we can to provide opportunities for residents, particularly the younger generation, to fulfil their potential so I’m delighted that we can today announce the creation of 20 new apprenticeships.
“An apprenticeship with the council is the perfect springboard for a young person to pursue a career that appeals to them with great training and support.”
Most apprenticeships take between one and four years to complete, depending on the level of vocational study and the vocational sector.
The council programme is only open to Inverclyde residents aged 16 – 24 years.
MAs offer paid employment combined with relevant on the job learning, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
Over the years, many trainees have secured full-time employment with the council following the end of their apprenticeship while others have gone on to enjoy successful careers elsewhere in the public, private and third sectors.
The positions currently available with Inverclyde Council are:
