Shipbuilders of Port Glasgow short film

A short film about the Shipbuilders of Port Glasgow sculpture is now available to watch of the Inverclyde Council YouTube channel.

The film explores the background to the huge 10 metre (33 feet) tall stainless-steel figures that now proudly stand in the town's Coronation Park as a tribute to the shipbuilders of Port Glasgow and the Lower Clyde.

Made by film-maker Chris Fallen, from Hidden Meaning Productions, the film charts the history of the sculpture from inception to completion and features interviews with sculptor John McKenna, who designed and installed the artwork, and former Provost of Inverclyde and ex-shipyard worker, Councillor Robert Moran, who officially launched the sculpture at a ceremony on Saturday 24 June 2023.

The sculpture, also affectionately known as ‘The Skelpies’ or 'The Riveters', was commissioned by Riverside Inverclyde and Inverclyde Council and John McKenna's design was chosen following a public vote.

The film is now available to watch on the Inverclyde Council YouTube and social media channels or by clicking the link in the Other Websites section of this page.
