Low income payments rise to £350
COST of living payments in Inverclyde will rise to £350 as part of a £½ million council package to support some 10,000 low income families.
The local authority has already committed £3m in the 2022/23 budget to provide a £300 one-off payment for households that are either in receipt of council tax reduction or exempt from council tax to help with the cost of living.
That payment will now increase by £50 to £350 following a decision by the policy and resources executive sub-committee at a meeting on Thursday 10 March 2022.
Around 10,000 households are expected to benefit at a cost of £500,000, which is being met from the council’s share of Scottish Government funding towards supporting recovery from Covid-19.
Councillor Stephen McCabe, leader of Inverclyde Council and convener of policy and resources, said: “The cost of living crisis is having a serious impact on household budgets that were already squeezed.
“It’s important that we do what we can as a council to support some of the most vulnerable in our communities by easing the financial strain they are facing.
“A one-off payment of £350, combined with the national £150 Cost of Living award, will deliver a real boost to struggling families at this vital time.”
The additional payment is part of a £1.4m support package for Inverclyde residents and businesses using government and council funding aimed at supporting recovery from Covid-19.
