Festive bin and recycling centre arrangements 2022
RESIDENTS in Inverclyde are being advised of the festive bin and recycling centre arrangements during Christmas and New Year.
All residents will have their bins emptied the day after their usual collection date.
Inverclyde’s two recycling centres at Pottery Street in Greenock and Craigmuschat Quarry in Gourock will both be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, and 2 January 2023 only.
People are being asked to note the change to their usual collection days and plan ahead accordingly.
Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council’s convener of environment and regeneration, said: “Changes to bin collections and opening times at our recycling centres are minimal this year due to Christmas and New Year falling on the weekend.
“Nevertheless, collection days will be different so I encourage residents to bear this in mind and ensure their bins are left out at the correct time so they are not missed.
“I would also encourage people to do their bit for the environment by making use of our two excellent recycling facilities at Pottery Street and Craigmuschat Quarry and help reduce the impact of the additional waste this time of year always generates.
“Wrapping paper, Christmas cards, empty selection boxes, cans and plastic bottles can all go in our blue bins. Large cardboard packaging and additional recyclable materials can be left alongside for collection while our green containers are ideal for recycling leftover or unwanted food.
“The recycling centres can also accommodate larger items and an array of other things such as oils, glass and textiles so please recycle as much as possible.”

If bin collections are delayed due to adverse weather conditions, residents are asked to leave their bins out by 7am every day to allow collection at the earliest opportunity.
Large cardboard packaging and additional recyclates can be placed beside blue bins for collection.

Craigmuschat Recycling Centre may close earlier than advertised if it becomes full to capacity.
Residents should visit Pottery Street Recycling Centre as an alternative if this happens.
