Access your Council Tax account online

People in Inverclyde are being given greater control over their Council Tax accounts thanks to a new, online service that is being launched by Inverclyde Council.

The new service offers local Council Tax payers a range of options designed to make it easier to manage their money and see their balance and payment history at a glance.

Using the new service people can also: get a copy of a recent bill; tell the council about a house move; apply for discounts and exemptions; view property details, such as which band a property is in; set up a direct debit; change an existing direct debit and make a payment.

The new electronic service will also help to reduce how much the council has to spend on postage and reduce the amount of paper used.

Councillor Stephen McCabe, Convener of Inverclyde Council’s Policy & Resources Committee, said, “Online banking is a regular part of people’s lives. This new service means people can now manage their Council Tax account on their phone, tablet or laptop wherever and whenever they want.

“Our library service will also be supporting the roll-out of the new service. They are currently offering a free IT programme covering mobile phones and tablets. The small classes are led by our friendly and knowledgeable staff. They give attendees the confidence to make their device work for them and get the most from it while staying safe online. We also provide free wi-fi and computer access at our community centres.

“Even with this extensive support we recognise that many of our customers don’t have Internet access and can’t use digital services. Our goal is to make accessing services easier so we will continue to provide the option of getting in touch with us in person and on the phone.”

Inverclyde has seen a spate of Council Tax related scams over the last 12 months so the service uses high security protocols provided through mygovscot - the Scottish Government authentication service which offers a secure sign-in for online public services in Scotland.
