report from official inspectors.

The behaviour of pupils and effective leadership at Ardgowan Primary were highlighted following a two day visit by Education Scotland inspectors.

Their report also praised the school team for effectively identifying the strengths of the school and for understanding the areas to be improved.

Convener Councillor Jim Clocherty said: “I was delighted to be able to welcome head teacher Alison McLellan to offer our personal congratulations on an excellent inspection to her and her staff.

“Their enthusiasm and dedication to the school has been officially recognised and their hard work is clearly reflected in the achievements of their pupils.

“We are understandably proud of our school estate investment but that is only part of the story. We have provided the tools but it is the quality of the work inside that counts.”

Inspectors visited Ardgowan Primary in Greenock over two days and talked to parents/carers and children and worked closely with the head teacher and staff.

Head teacher Alison McLellan said: “I am delighted with their findings and would like to commend everyone on the staff team. We take enormous pride in our partnership with parents and the community to deliver the best education we can to every single pupil at Ardgowan. I am so proud of what we have achieved particularly in promoting positive behaviour and relationships. Exciting times lie ahead for all.”

The report also recognised that across the school children enjoy a range of opportunities to develop skills in writing. By the end of their last year at Ardgowan Primary they produce writing of high quality and show potential to reach higher levels.
