Check your travel card call
Over 60s in Inverclyde are being urged to check their new entitlement card for concessionary travel.
For, after 31 December, the old ‘one Scotland’ card is being replaced with a new card.
The new card will have either the ‘mygovscot’ or ‘saltirecard’ logo on it. These will be valid for travel and accepted by bus operators from the New Year in 2017.
Inverclyde Council and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) have been replacing the old cards with the new ones for concessionary travel for anyone aged 60 or over. The card is also being distributed to residents who have received the entitlement card on the grounds of a disability.
But, they are calling on residents to make sure it is the new card being used in the New Year.
Inverclyde Council’s Education and Communities Convener, Councillor Terry Loughran, said; “The new entitlement card is being rolled out across Scotland and a great deal of work has been delivered to make sure that everyone who is entitled to one gets it. But, we would urge residents who are entitled to the card to make sure that they have the most up to date version to avoid any hassles using it for concessionary travel.”
Inverclyde Council’s representative on the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) board, Councilor David Wilson, said: “The concessionary travel scheme means that elderly and disabled people from Inverclyde can access free bus travel in Scotland and reduced fares on trains and Subway in the Strathclyde area. New cards have been sent to everyone in advance of the 1 January changeover and once you receive your new card you should start using it straight away and destroy any old bus passes now to avoid confusion. If you use the old card after 1 January 2017, it won’t work and you may be asked to pay the fare. Make sure you check your card today.”
How to tell if you are using the right card:
- The new style over 60s card no longer has a ‘valid to’ date. This means it is now a card for life. Cards issued on the grounds of disability will continue to display a ‘valid to’ date.
- If the most recently issued card has the ‘mygovscot’ or the ‘saltirecard’ logo, then you already have the new card and will not need to get it replaced.
- If you have not received a replacement card call the number on the back of your OneScotland card to request a replacement.
