Simone McCredie took up her post just weeks before the school is due to move to temporary accommodation ahead of a £4.3 million refurbishment.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted to be the new Head Teacher in Kilmacolm Primary. I am looking forward to working with all the children, staff and parents and building on the school's successes and achievements. The whole Kilmacolm school community has made me feel very welcome.”

Simone graduated from Moray House School of Education with a Post Graduate Degree in Primary Education. After working as a class teacher in Musselburgh she moved to Cumbernauld Primary in North Lanarkshire where she became a principal teacher before working as depute head teacher at Gowanbank Primary in Glasgow.

Education Vice Convener Councillor James McColgan said: “Simone brings a wealth of experience from a range of other local authorities to Inverclyde. She arrives at an important time for the school as they prepare for the move to Port Glasgow next month. There is a lot to get organised but we have a fantastic school community in Kilmacolm so I am sure it will all go smoothly.”

Kilmacolm Primary moved to its current location in 1971 after nearly a hundred years in the old school house – now the Cargill community centre.

The school will transfer to the former St Stephen’s High School in Port Glasgow on Friday 23 October. The refurbishment is expected to take a year.
