Working closely with the Port Glasgow West Community Council a public consultation was carried out and proposals were put forward to create a public park from the demolished site.

The redundant bowling greens have been completely landscaped and a new play area now stands in its place.

The refurbished Birkmyre Park has also been fitted with seating areas to take advantage of the views to the north over the Clyde estuary.

Environment and Regeneration Convenor Councillor Michael McCormick said: “This new park will be a great asset for the community allowing kids to enjoy the play area while the grown-ups take in the views of the Clyde. The former site had been unused for too long, and I am delighted we have been able to give it a new lease of life.”
