Taxi Driver Licensing

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - IMMIGRATION ACT 2016
The Immigration Act 2016 requires the Council to undertake additional checks on persons making applications for a Taxi Driver’s Licence relative to their right to work in the United Kingdom.  All persons making an application for a Taxi Driver’s Licence will require to attend an interview where documentation must be provided, in its original format, that supports the Applicant’s right to work in the United Kingdom.   Please be aware that checks will be made using both internal and external databases to confirm the validity of any information contained within the application form.

Civic Enforcement Officers shall contact all applicants to arrange an appointment within 28 days of an application being made.  Once an applicant has provided appropriate documentation showing the right to remain and work within the United Kingdom, no further checks on Immigration status will be undertaken relative to future applications, but checks will continue to be made with Police Scotland relative to domestic and foreign criminal convictions.

More information is available on the Taxi Driver’s Licence application form.

If you drive a taxi or private hire licensed vehicle you will require a Taxi Driver’s Licence.

In order to apply for a Taxi Driver’s Licence you must have held a Full UK Driving Licence for the immediate 12 month period prior to making an application.

The application form and further information is available on the Documents Section of this page.
