Health Visiting

Inverclyde Children and Families teams are based in Health Centers across Inverclyde. The teams include a variety of staff groups including Health Visitors and the team including Nursey Nurses, Healthcare Support Workers, Oral Health and Business Support staff working with families with children under 5 years. The School Health team are based in Greenock and work with children from Primary one to school leaving.

The teams aim to provide a universal service to all babies, children young people and a more targeted approach to children and young people who have additional needs or requirements. Child protection and the wider role of protecting and supporting all children and young people are paramount to all staff within the teams. The teams have active links and liaison with other health colleagues, social work colleagues, education staff and voluntary agencies. Our key partners however are the children, young people and their families and carers. 

The Health Visiting service we provide includes:

  • Assessment
  • Screening and child health surveillance
  • Reviews and follow up work
  • Review of health needs, onward referrals, advocacy and follow up
  • Supporting  children needing protection or who are care experienced
  • Supporting children with additional health needs
  • Supporting families, children and young people (C&YP ) to make healthy lifestyle choices
  • Supporting immunisation
  • Parenting support
  • Referral to other services

The School Nursing Service includes:

  • Assessment
  • Screening and child health surveillance
  • Reviews and follow up work
  • Supporting mental health and wellbeing
  • Supporting C&YP needing protection or who are care experienced
  • Supporting C&YP with additional health needs

Advice and support to clients is a key role for all staff. Individual and group work is provided at home, clinics, schools and other venues. All babies and young children have a named Health Visitor who is aligned to a GP practice and school age children and young people are allocated a named school nurse for targeted work.
