What is a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO)?
An HMO is shared accommodation including flats, bedsits, lodgings, bed and breakfast and other communal accommodation such as student residences and hostels occupied by several people who share facilities such as a bathroom, toilet or kitchen. To be described as an HMO the accommodation must be the main residence of 3 or more people who are not members of the same family or of one or other of two families.
