What training commitment is involved in the Children’s Panel?
The Pre-Service programme for the Children’s Panel involves approximately 40 hours of training divided into several sessions. Training is held between January and April with sessions being conducted mainly at weekends and in the evenings. Thereafter, the Panel In-Service training which is reduced substantially to a couple of Saturday mornings per year and regular bi-monthly evening meetings. It is a condition of appointment that Panel members satisfactorily complete the course of Pre-Service training before they begin to serve on Children’s hearings. Attendance of all parts of each session is therefore essential.
