Who is responsible for the safety of the headstone?
The owners of a grave are responsible for the safety of the memorial on the grave. If it becomes loose, leans or otherwise appears unsafe, please contact a Council Approved Monumental Sculptor (refer to link at foot of this page). The original placing of a memorial should be safe for 30 years, after which all memorials need a safety inspection. The memorial is placed onto a foundation in order to improve stability and keep soil from splashing up onto the inscription.
Memorials must be set 2 inches behind the edge of the foundation so that mowers do not touch them. Where memorials are set less than 2 inches from the edge, the Council will not be responsible for any mower damage caused to the memorial.
