About Civil Marriages
Our marriage suite is located on the first floor of the Port Glasgow Town Hall and is the perfect choice for your ceremony. It features opulent furnishings with tasteful historical features. The large windows make the natural light in the room particularly pleasing. The room has a white marble fireplace in the centre and wood panelling gifted by Cunard Line when the QE2 underwent final commissioning in Inverclyde in 1968.
Historically, Civil Marriages could only take place in the office of an authorised Registrar in a short ceremony which focused mainly on the legal requirements of marriage.Today, Civil Marriages take place almost anywhere allowing a greater choice of venue - you can be married in a hotel or on one of Inverclyde’s beauty spots, beaches or even in your garden – any location that is special to you.
Our ceremonies are available Monday through Friday including public holidays. The role of a Registrar is also unique – only Registrars can guide you through the whole marriage process including:
- Choosing your venue
- Submitting your Marriage Notices
- Tailoring your ceremony making it unique to both of you
- Conducting your Ceremony
- Registering your marriage
- Issuing your Marriage Certificate
A Civil Marriage gives couples the opportunity to have a ceremony which is both unique and personal. You may wish to enhance your ceremony by incorporating any of our enhancements and all of our Registrars are happy to work with you every step of the way to make your day a truly memorable occasion. Further information on enhancements can be found in the documents section of this page.
