This collection includes European costume of all types: men’s, women’s and children’s clothes and accessories. It covers items used in a wide variety of contexts and contains fashion and leisure wear, uniforms and decorative textiles such as samplers.

The collection mainly contains a general selection of late nineteenth and early twentieth century Scottish and British costume for men, women and children and accessories. One of the more interesting items is a nineteenth century coachman’s costume.

Some samples of costume and textiles from Europe are included such as Milanese and Mechilin lace work. There are four nineteenth century Berliner woolwork tapestries and eight samplers, some dating from the eighteenth century.
